The chemical formula for Carbon dioxide is commonly referred to as CO2. What does co2 stand for? It refers to one molecule of carbon with two molecules of oxygen and the combination is referred to as CO2. It is a gaseous material present in the earth’s atmosphere. CO2 is used by plants to prepare their food by a process called photosynthesis. This gas is emitted by animals, plants and microorganisms when they breathe.

During the change of season, Carbon dioxide fluctuates due to the change of atmospheric concentration. These changes can be directly seen in the northern hemisphere during the seasonal plant growth. Plants consume a high volume of gas during the summer and northern spring and as a result there is a fall in carbon dioxide concentration. But in other seasons namely winter and autumn, the plants tend to decay or die.

Well known as the green house gas, it does not have a liquid state and at a specific altitude, for instance close to sea level, the gas directly gets converted to solid when the temperature falls down below 78 degrees and the solid particles gets directly converted to gas when the temperature rise above 78 degrees. The solid state of Carbon dioxide is referred as dry ice.

CO2 is a colourless and odourless gas, but at higher concentrations, the gas may have strong acidic odour. This stage of CO2 may lead to suffocation as it behaves like an irritant. Anyone who breathes in this gas at such higher concentration will experience a stinging feeling in their nose and throat and a sour flavour in their mouth.

The other major benefit of the gas is it is used with AED. Do you know what does AED stand for? AED refers to Automated External Defibrillator. It is a small device used to give artificial respiration to those people who have no heart rhythm. The device is small in size and easy to use. The devices are installed in many schools, colleges, airports, other public settings, etc., to save lives of people with defibrillation probabilities.

It is an automatic machine that checks the heart rhythm in a natural way and instructs the operator to distribute and deliver the shock at required intervals.
