Spain – Street view cars

The countdown to Google’s October 2010 court hearing has started. Spain wants an investigation on  street view cars that Google let loose in the streets of Madrid. The cars that have camera attachments are part of the featured technology in Google Maps and Google Earth. Google Street view provides a three dimensional view from various angles of our streets.

But the scenery is not so amazing, Google recently admitted that their street view cars has unintentionally captured the sensitive images and that said images has been widely republished in numerous wireless networks. At first, the concern for maintaining privacy was not much of an issue. If inappropriate pictures are flagged by users the images are reviewed and removed if found offensive. But the alarming news that the Street View cars had been gathering private information of people’s online activities made Spain turn to the courthouse.. The breach in the privacy of the masses has been astounding and October is a long time coming.
